Bachelor of Education in Primary Education

Programme Overview

The Bachelor of Education in Primary Education is intended for individuals who wish to become trained teachers at the primary level (Grades 1–6). The programme emphasizes curriculum design, assessment, literacy and numeracy development, inclusive teaching, and classroom‑management strategies. Graduates are equipped to teach all core subjects at the primary level, plan effective lessons aligned with national standards, and support diverse learners. Successful graduates qualify for employment as trained teachers in primary schools.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have five subjects with passes at Grades I, II, or III (CSEC/CXC) or Grades A, B, or C (GCE O‑Level) (Grade 3 valid from June 1998 onward):

Option A: Mathematics & Science

  • English A
  • Mathematics
  • One Natural Science subject (Biology/ Human and Social Biology/ Chemistry/ Physics/ Integrated Science)
  • Two other academic subjects (except EDPM)

Option B: Language Arts & Social Studies

  • English A
  • Mathematics
  • One Social Science subject (Caribbean History/Social Studies/History/Geography)
  • Two other academic subjects (except EDPM)

Supporting Documents

  • Original Birth Certificate
  • Original Academic Certificates (CSEC/CXC/GCE/NCTVET)
  • Tax Registration Number
  • Marriage Certificate (if applicable)
  • Two professional reference letters (signed and on letterhead)
  • One passport‑sized photograph (not more than 6 months old)
Important: When applying, copies of birth certificate, marriage certificate and academic certificates must be verified (stamped and signed) by a Justice of the Peace.
