The B. Ed. in Primary Programme prepares persons to become teachers at the Primary level of the education system. This programme prepares an individual to teach students from Grades 3 to 6. The Primary Programme exposes students to content and methodology to teach from Grades 1 to 6.

 The B. ED in Primary education is offered in two modalities – full-time and part-time

  • The full-time programme is normally completed over a four-year period
  • The part-time programme is normally completed over a five-year period.

 The B. ED in Primary education is offered in two modalities – full-time and part-time

  • The full-time programme is normally completed over a four-year period, between the hours of 8:00 am- 4:30 pm daily.
  • The part-time programme is normally completed over a five-year period, between the hours of 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm daily

Programme Structure 

The B. Ed. programme has two parts:

  • Part 1 includes years 1 and 2, and normally delivers the foundation courses; primarily teaching content.
  • Part 2 (years 3 and 4 and 5) focuses especially on professional attitudes and competences.

Programme Requirements

    Minimum Entry Requirements – Five CSEC/GCE/SSC 

  • Mathematics 
  • English Language 
  • Social Science Subject
  • Natural Science Subject and
  • any other academic subject (except Electronic Document Preparation and Management (EDPM)

CSEC General    – Grades 1, 2 & 3*

GCE                 –  Grades A, B, or C

SSC                 –  Grades 4 & 5

CXC/CSEC subjects grades 1 to 3 (from 1998)
