Minimum Entry Requirements

Standard Entry (CSEC / GCE / SSC)

Applicants must have passes in at least five (5) subjects, which must include:

  • English Language
  • Mathematics
  • Social Science (See list below)
  • Natural Science (See list below)
  • One other academic subject
Accepted Grades:
• CSEC General: Grades 1, 2 & 3*
• GCE: Grades A, B or C
• SSC: Grades 4 & 5

*Grade 3 accepted if obtained after June 1998.

Accepted Subject Categories

Science Subjects

Human and Social Biology, Biology, Chemistry, Integrated Science, Physics, Food and Nutrition, or any other science subject in this category.

Social Science Subjects

Social Studies, History, Religious Studies, Geography, English Literature, Spanish, French, or any other social science subject.



Classroom Instruction

Mature Candidates

Applicants who do not meet the standard entry requirements may apply as Mature Candidates if they meet the following criteria:

  • Must be 30 years or older.
  • At least 5 years teaching experience at the Early Childhood level.
  • Must possess CXC/CSEC English Language and one other academic subject.
NOTE: Practical Business Subjects are NOT accepted.

*Grades 1, 2 & 3 in Mathematics are specifically required/accepted for the B.Ed. Early Childhood Education programme.
